Captain Chris Rigby's background
By Captain Chris, Dec 14 2011 06:00AM
Captain Chris Rigby was trained by BOAC in the early 70’s but due to them having too many pilots at the time, he left to join Cyprus Airways for 2 years, flying Tridents based out of Nicosia.
Chris then returned to the UK and joined Britannia Airways at Birmingham in 1974. It was with Britannia, on the Boeing 737 200 series, that he gained his command at the age of 26, one of the youngest jet captains at that that time in the UK.
After 13 years with Britannia, Chris became a freelance pilot, flying private jets for Chris de Burgh, Nigel Mansell and other celebrities as well as occasional 737 contracts. He then joined easyJet at its start up in Luton flying the 737 2 & 300 series aircraft.
Four years later he moved back to British Airways (CitiExpress) at Birmingham flying the Embraer 145 and then back to Britannia Airways (now rebranded Thomsonfly) at Coventry Airport, once again on the 737 300 & 800 (NG) models.
After Thomsons pulled out of Coventry, Chris joined Ryanair, based at Birmingham on the 737 800 (NG) until January 2011.
Chris is still an active / licensed pilot available for freelance work. He has over 20,000 hours flying experience of which over 15,000 hours are as a captain.
Chris is available for lectures or speaking engagements. Please send him an email with your needs.
